Born From Culture celebrates the identity behind Toa and Fetū Samoa

The cultural production brings Samoa’s two national rugby league teams together through dance, tradition, history and the people who continue to carry the nation’s heritage. Representing Samoa carries a connection that extends far beyond the rugby league field.

That connection takes centre stage in Born From Culture | Toa & Fetū Samoa Edition, a cultural production celebrating the identity, traditions and people behind Toa Samoa and Fetū Samoa.

Bringing together both national teams, the film captures different expressions of Samoan culture through traditional dance, ceremonial movement, music and community participation. From Toa Samoa performing the siva tau to the presence of taupous wearing the tuiga, each moment reflects the cultural identity shared by the players and the nation they represent. The production also draws on Samoa’s history, featuring the historic Office of the Mau in Vaimoso, a significant setting connected to the country’s movement for self-determination. Cultural contributors from across the community, including Kings Siva Academy, Anofale Dance Group, Aumaga Dance Group, Lepea Aumaga and Samoa Tourism Siva, helped bring the production to life. Featured taupous Miss Samoa 2026 Poumau Tiufea Va’a and Penina Chan Boon also represent an important part of the cultural story.

For both teams, the film reflects the connection between culture and representation. Whether wearing the blue jersey of Toa Samoa or representing Fetū Samoa, the players carry the stories, traditions and pride of the people behind them. As both teams continue their campaigns at the 2026 Rugby League World Cup, Born From Culture offers a reminder of what they represent beyond the game.

The toloa bird may fly, but it always returns to the water.
