From his grandmother’s village to the international stage, Payne Haas shares what it means to wear the Toa Samoa jersey with pride.

Growing up in a proud Samoan family, Payne Haas always felt a deep connection to his roots. Now, as he prepares to represent Toa Samoa, that lifelong dream has become reality.

“It’s pretty special, to be honest. I grew up watching my uncle Mark play for Samoa, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. To do it now — it’s crazy.”

For Haas, this moment is about more than rugby. It’s about honoring his family, his culture, and the people who shaped his journey.

Inspired by Family and Heritage

Payne’s pride in his heritage comes from the heart of his family — his grandmother’s village and his mother, who kept Samoan traditions alive at home.

“My mum made us sing the Samoan national anthem when we were young,” he recalls with a smile. “When I heard it again before a Test match, all those memories came flooding back. That’s when I knew I wanted to play for Samoa.”

Those childhood moments became the foundation of a powerful decision — to represent Samoa on the world stage.

A Journey of Pride and Purpose

Family remains at the core of everything for Payne Haas. This campaign, he says, is deeply personal.

“My grandfather’s sick at the moment. To play for him, my mum, and my grandmother means everything. We’re a family-first people.”

As he prepares to take the field, Payne knows the importance of the blue jersey and what it represents to Samoans around the world.

“To see the Samoan flags, to sing the anthem, to do the Siva Tau… it’s all so special. I can’t wait to do a job with the boys.”

Representing Samoa with Pride

The Toa Samoa jersey carries stories of legacy and sacrifice — something Payne doesn’t take lightly.

“I used to watch my uncle Mark perform the Siva Tau when I was little. We’d try to copy him in the lounge room. Now, to actually do it for real — it’s a dream come true.”

As the team prepares for the challenge ahead, Haas says it’s all about balance — hard work and joy.

“We’re taking it seriously, but I just want to enjoy it with the boys. Be proud of our culture and take it day by day.”

A New Chapter for Toa Samoa

For Payne Haas, representing Toa Samoa is more than a sporting achievement — it’s a celebration of identity, heritage, and belonging. It’s a reminder that rugby isn’t just a game for the Pacific — it’s a symbol of pride that connects families across generations.

“To represent my family and my people on the biggest stage… I can’t wait.”
